How to request a PCB quote: the specification checklist
Everything a manufacturer needs to price your boards correctly the first time, so that the offer needs no follow-up questions.
Why a complete request matters
A quote is only as good as the specification behind it. Missing details force the manufacturer to guess or to ask, which costs days. With a complete request you receive a price that matches what you will actually receive.
The checklist
| Item | What to state |
|---|---|
| Quantity | How many boards, and whether you expect repeat orders or a series |
| Board size | Length × width in millimetres, and the outline if it is not rectangular |
| Layers | 1, 2, 4 or 6; for aluminium (IMS) state that |
| Material | FR4 or aluminium (IMS); for FR4 the glass transition temperature Tg 135, 150 or 170 °C |
| Thickness | Finished board thickness in millimetres (0.51 to 2.4 mm) |
| Copper | 18, 35, 50 or 70 µm; per layer on multilayer boards |
| Surface finish | HASL lead-free is our standard finish |
| Solder mask and silkscreen | Colours |
| Tolerances | Trace and spacing class, smallest drill diameter |
| Delivery format | Single boards, free delivery or a panel defined by you |
| Quality class | IPC class if your product requires one |
| Certificates | RoHS certificate if you need it |
| Lead time | Standard or urgent, and the delivery country |
| Special features | Castellated holes, slots, plated edges, chamfers |
What to attach
- The Gerber files and the Excellon drill files in one ZIP or RAR archive (see the Gerber guide).
- A panel drawing if you define the panel yourself (see panelization).
- For multilayer boards, the stack-up you expect, or the thickness and copper weights, so that we can confirm them (see the stack-up guide).
- Notes on anything unusual: tight tolerances, a specific IPC class, a documentation requirement.
Controlled impedance is not offered at the moment; if you need it, say so in the request.
